SUB-SESSION 60min

13:45 – 14:45

Shared mobility is not a one-size-fits-all solution. What works in one city can fall flat in another. This session dives into the cultural puzzle of shared mobility: how do we figure out what works where, and why?

At the heart of the discussion we will have three speakers with rich knowledge. We will kick off with recent research by Rebel Group: the Transatlantic American Micromobility Trendsstudy. Commissioned by Bicycle Transit Systems, Rebel surveyed 24 micromobility managers across the US and EU to uncover what cities really want from the future of micromobility. The focus will be on the hardware requirements. They will move from fleet composition and equipment to funding models and regulatory frameworks, the findings reveal shared priorities as well as striking cultural differences. Lime, an international operator, will dive into differences in users and usage; gender, age and other remarkable differences. The presentations of insights will end with interesting philosophical ideas around the adoption of car sharing in Europe; the choice for station based and free floating models by To Zest.

We’ll use all of these insights as the starting point to puzzle out how shared mobility propositions can be better matched with the right target groups and the right infrastructure. By learning from both sides of the Atlantic, we can move from trial and error to smarter, context-driven strategies.

The real question….what is cultural? Join in figuring out what makes shared mobility into a success. How to turn cultural differences into an asset, so shared mobility fits local realities, resonates with people, and scales sustainably.

Hi, I’m Clemens. As a consultant at Rebel Group, I get to bridge two worlds: technology and policy. For the past four years, I’ve been exploring how new mobility can actually transform the future we live in. From data models to decision rooms, I like to challenge the status quo and push for smarter, bolder moves. Shared mobility is not just a topic for me, it’s the puzzle I can’t stop solving.
Hi, I’m Angelo. I’ve been rocking the shared mobility stage since 2007, when I joined Mpact in Belgium to design smarter, more accessible transport solutions. Today, I work as an independent trainer and advisor with To Zest and Movmi, bringing global projects to life. As Chair of UITP’s Shared Vehicles Committee, I connect operators and public transport companies to shape the future together. Nearly two decades in, I blend hands-on project know-how with strategic insight and one clear drive: making cities and regions more liveable through shared mobility.
Hi, I’m Sofie. You’ll usually find me in the middle of a good policy conversation. With a background in political science, I’ve spent decades working in and with local, regional, and national governments before jumping into the mobility sector in 2024 with Lime. These days, I talk with cities and municipalities across the Benelux about how shared mobility can fuel liveability and future-proof urban life. I have a soft spot for people who don’t fit into a single box; diversity rocks. Outside of work, I love running (or “lopen” as we say in Flanders), cycling, yoga, great food, and of course, music. For me, mobility isn’t just about moving through cities. It’s about moving society forward, one bold step at a time.
